The Alzheimer’s Association® provides care and support to those affected by Alzheimer’s and all other dementia through free, high-quality education programs sponsored by the YMCA of the Roses. These individual education sessions cover a variety of topics on Alzheimer and Dementia.

These 30 to 60 minute virtual & in-person classes are led by a certified YMCA facilitator. Each session includes Q&A opportunities for discussion and will provide participants with the most up to date information regarding each topic.

Offered the second Tuesday of each month at the LS YMCA from 5-9 pm.

American Red Cross blended learning class to train professional-level rescuers to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants. Includes First Aid.

IMPORTANT DETAILS ABOUT YOUR CLASS: Blended learning means you will do some work at home prior to your in person training.  You are required to provide a unique personal email address to receive the hyperlinks to complete the online portion of your class and to obtain your digital certificates.  The hyperlinks will be emailed out one week prior to the start of your class. Please allow 2.5 to 4 hours to complete online training.  Please bring a copy of your online completion certificate to the class (digital or paper).

Dress comfortably and bring a towel to kneel on as skills are performed on the floor.

Rock Steady Boxing, a nationally acclaimed program, provides hope and empowers men and women living with Parkinson’s disease to be more independent and improve their quality of life.

Program Description:

  • Evidence-based program

  • Led by certified Personal Trainers and Rock Steady Boxing coaches
  • Three 90-minute classes per week
  • Non-contact boxing drills
  • Conditioning exercises for optimal  muscular endurance, agility, hand-eye coordination and overall strength
  • Emphasis on gross motor movement, balance, core strength, posture and gait
  • Intake and regular assessments of physical and cognitive ability

This course awards the YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification. After successful completion of this course, instructors will be able to identify components of the YMCA Swim Lessons continuum, demonstrate the behaviors of an effective YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor, maintain an inclusive environment of learning while keeping order in a positive and safe environment, employ swim teaching techniques that break down the critical features of a swimmer’s skill progression at any age and stage and demonstrate the swim instructor’s role in the safety process and during an emergency.

PREREQUISITES: Candidates must be CPR/AED PRO (within 1 year), First Aid, and Oxygen Certified prior to the start of class.  Candidates must be able to tread water for three minutes and demonstrate Stage 5 proficiency in at least four of the following six strokes by swimming 25 yards of each: Front Crawl, Breaststroke, Sidestroke, Butterfly, Elementary Backstroke, and Backstroke.

Attending all sessions is mandatory.

*If the YMCA holds class but your child is absent due to illness, you will need to provide a doctor’s note to Tammy Shore (Aquatic Director) to schedule a make-up during your currently enrolled session.

Join us for a variety of different basketball programs – sign ups are by team, and only the CAPTAIN of your team should sign up.
