The YMCA Men’s Residence

GIVING EVERYONE A HOME

The Men’s Residence at the YMCA of the Roses in York offers new beginnings for men who are without housing or in need of a low- income housing.

The residence is located on the 300 block of West Philadelphia Street. The Men’s Residence has 120 SRO (single-room occupancy) units, with 114 leased rooms and 6 transition rooms.

Features and Utilities

  • Each room is approximately 8’ x 9’ and features a closet, a window with blind, a dresser, a desk, and a bed with a twin xl mattress.

  • Floors 3-5 each have:

    • A shared kitchenette with counter space.

    • A common area with a table.

    • Laundry room (coin or mobile app operated)

    • Shared bathroom and showers.

Available between 7am and 11pm there is a larger common area and a shared full kitchen on the 2nd floor and a small visiting room on the 3rd floor.


*Some rooms may be available for Section 8 funding, which based on your income, can significantly lower your monthly rent. See below for information regarding that process.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must…

  • Documentable gross (before taxes) income not over $37,050.00.
  • Unhoused male.
  • Able to live independently.
  • Documentable ability to pay rent of $455 per month.
  • No felony convictions in the past 15 years.
  • No violent or sexual offenses.

Applications should be returned with the following items:

  • State Issued ID
  • Social Security Card
  • 2 most recent monthly statements for any checking account(s).
  • Most recent statement for any savings account(s).
  • Social Security Benefit Award Letter, past dated not more than 60 days (For best and fastest document retrieval, we recommend setting up the SSA.gov app so the letter can be easily updated)
  • 2 full months of pay stubs
  • An employment offer letter stating hourly wage and hours worked.
  • Another documentable way you will be paying rent.
  • Letter of Homelessness (can be obtained from a shelter or written by a temporary host or landlord with whom you can no longer reside)

All documents possessed by the applicant must be presented for review. Failure to present required documentation will result in an incomplete application and will not be processed. Original Documents will be copied by YMCA staff and returned to the applicant.


When we contact you regarding a room you must complete ALL required paperwork within 3 weeks or you will no longer be offered the room.


We will keep applications active for 120 days. Applications will stay active past 120 days on a case-by-case basis at request of the applicant.
