Preschool Swim Lessons
Our Preschool Swim Program includes four progressive levels designed to build confidence, water safety, and foundational swimming skills. The first three levels follow the YMCA Swim Basics continuum:
- Water Acclimation: Builds comfort in the water through underwater exploration and introduces assisted self-rescue skills
- Water Movement: Encourages independent movement through the water while developing basic self-rescue skills
- Water Stamina: Strengthens endurance and intermediate self-rescue skills over longer distances
- Stroke Introduction: Introduces basic freestyle and backstroke techniques while reinforcing water safety through treading water
Class Details

Level 2 - Water Movement
Water Movement is designed to help swimmers build confidence and develop foundational swimming skills through guided practice and fun, age-appropriate activities. Participants work on moving comfortably through the water while learning proper body position, balance, kicking, arm movements, and breathing techniques.
Lessons may include practicing front and back floats, gliding, kicking with and without support, changing body positions, and combining arm and leg movements. Swimmers also continue developing essential water-safety skills, such as entering and exiting the pool safely, responding to instructions, and becoming more independent in the water.
The goal of Water Movement is to help swimmers progress from basic water adjustment toward more coordinated and purposeful swimming, while creating a positive environment where they can gain confidence and enjoy being in the water.
The student should be able to happily submerge their entire head and blow bubbles under water.

Level 3 - Water Stamina
Water Stamina is designed to help swimmers develop endurance, strength, and confidence while swimming longer distances and maintaining proper technique. Participants build on previously learned swimming skills by practicing continuous movement through the water, improving breathing patterns, and developing greater control and efficiency.
Lessons focus on swimming endurance, rhythmic breathing, kicking, arm strokes, body position, and coordination. Swimmers may practice swimming multiple lengths of the pool, changing strokes, maintaining a steady pace, and recovering safely when they become tired.
Water Stamina also reinforces important water-safety and self-rescue skills, helping swimmers recognize their limits, manage fatigue, and make safe decisions in and around the water. The goal is to help participants become stronger, more confident, and more capable swimmers while preparing them for continued skill development and more advanced swimming.
