Water Acclimation is the first stage of swim lessons and focuses on skills for beginners. In Water Acclimation, students are introduced to the pool and develop safe water habits in a fun and encouraging environment. Students become comfortable with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit a body of water in the event they fall in. This introductory stage builds the foundation for the child’s future progress in swimming.

Students will learn:

* Swim, float, swim – sequencing front glide, roll, back float, and exit.

* Jump, push, turn, grab

Participants may only sign up for 1 session per child. Registration for multiple sessions will be refunded and taken off the roster. This is to ensure other children have a chance to get into our swim lesson program! thank you for your understanding!

Encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently. Swimmers learn personal water safety and introduce basic swimming competency by learning two bench mark skills: 1) Swim, Float, Swim – sequencing front glide, roll, back float, roll, front glide, and exit; 2) Jump, push, turn, grab

The student should be able to happily submerge their entire head and blow bubbles under water.

Develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances than in previous stages. Swimmers learn personal water safety and introduce basic swimming competency by learning two bench mark skills: 1) Swim, Float, Swim – sequencing front glide, roll, back float, roll, front glide, and exit; 2) Jump, push, turn, grab

Student should be able to swim with floatation or assistance 1/2 the length of the pool and happily submerge the entire body blowing bubbles.

Introduces basic stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and reinforces water safety through treading water and elementary backstroke. Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique developing skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity.

Student must be able to swim independently for half the length of the pool submerging the face in the water.

In this stage, children focus on exploring body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water while also continuing to practice how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.

Each class is 30 minutes. 7 classes total in and 8 week session. Recommended after completing Water Discovery; Level 1.

Each class is 30 minutes. 7classes total in 8 sessions. Recommended for Ages 3-5.

Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of waters in stage 1. This stage lays the foundation that allows for a students future progress in swimming. This level is for children ages 3-5 years old.

Make-ups will only be given for classes missed due to holidays and if the Y has to cancel a class. Make-ups will be held during the make-up week of the session.

Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of waters in stage 1. This stage lays the foundation that allows for a students future progress in swimming.

In stage 2, students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water while also continuing to practice how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.

Make-ups will only be given for classes missed due to holidays and if the Y has to cancel a class. Make-ups must be done during the session the participant is currently registered for. Classes missed due to inclement weather will not be made up or given a credit.

In stage 2, students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water while also continuing to practice how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.

Make-ups will only be given for classes missed due to holidays and if the Y has to cancel a class. Make-ups will be held during the break week in between sessions.

Advanced level for ages 3-5.

In stage 3, students learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance than in previous stages in the event of falling into a body of water.  This stage also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action.

In stage 4 students will learn basic stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and reinforces water safety through  treading water and elementary backstroke. Students develop endurance to swim continuous 25 yards, to use rotary breathing with front crawl and to tread using breaststroke and scissors kick.

Make-ups will only be given for classes missed due to holidays and if the Y has to cancel a class. Make-ups must be done during the session the participant is currently registered for. Classes missed due to inclement weather will not be made up or given a credit.

If the YMCA holds class but your child is absent due to illness, you will need to provide a doctor’s note to the Aquatic Director to schedule a make-up during your currently enrolled session.
